Support your people. Build confidence in the first conversation.

Equip your Contact Officers with the skills to listen, explain available options and respond appropriately when employees raise workplace concerns.

iHR Australia’s Contact Officer Training builds confidence in supporting colleagues experiencing bullying, discrimination, sexual harassment or other inappropriate workplace behaviour.

What does a Contact Officer do?

A Contact Officer provides an approachable first point of contact for employees seeking information about a workplace concern.

They help people understand the organisation’s policies, available support and options for taking a matter forward.

The role requires sound judgement and clear boundaries. Contact Officers provide information and support; investigating complaints, counselling employees and mediating disputes sit outside their role.

This program is designed for newly appointed and prospective Contact Officers, as well as existing Contact Officers seeking to strengthen their skills.

What participants will learn

Participants will develop their ability to:

  • Understand the responsibilities and boundaries of the Contact Officer role.
  • Recognise discrimination, bullying, harassment and sexual harassment.
  • Listen with empathy and remain impartial during sensitive conversations.
  • Explain available options and direct employees to appropriate support.
  • Understand confidentiality, its limits and when escalation is needed.
  • Conduct meetings and keep appropriate records.

Practical learning through realistic workplace scenarios

Knowing what to say can be difficult when a colleague raises a sensitive concern.

Our Workplace Reality Theatre® brings these conversations to life through scenarios performed by professional actors. With guidance and feedback from an expert facilitator, participants explore how to respond and apply their learning in practice.
